When a loved one passes away, cremation is an option that more and more families are turning to. One of the factors behind this trend is the cost. How much does a cremation cost in Spain? Discover the price of this funeral service with Stelae.
What influences the price of a cremation in Spain?
The price of a cremation in Spain is influenced by different factors, such as:
- The geographical location.
- The type of urn chosen.
- The price of the crematorium.
- The administrative and legal formalities.
- Additional funeral services.
- The existence or not of a funeral or similar insurance policy.
Types of funeral services included
When it comes to the question of how much a cremation costs, we must also take into account, on the one hand, the type of cremation being considered and, on the other hand, the additional funeral services that may be included.
The two main types of cremation are traditional cremation and direct cremation. The latter is a simpler option, which only includes basic funeral services. Therefore, it is much cheaper.
Additional services such as a wake or a funeral ceremony can increase the price of cremation.
What does the Stelae cremation service include?
Stelae offers different direct cremation service packages with prices which allows each family to choose the one that best suits their preferences and budget.
Our services include the direct cremation, handling of administrative procedures, collection of the body, coffin, transfer to the crematorium, cremation fees and urn. However, additional services may also be included, depending on the option chosen.
The cremation process step by step
When a person dies, if the family chooses cremation, there are several stages in the process:
- If the deceased person had a death insurance policy, the insurance company must be contacted to obtain the death certificate and to complete other necessary administrative procedures.
- The family must sign the authorisation for the cremation of their loved one.
- The body is collected and taken to the crematorium.
- The body is prepared for cremation and, if applicable, pacemakers and bypasses are removed.
- The coffin is prepared (compulsory in Spain for cremation), removing metal and plastic ornaments and decorations.
- A piece of indestructible material with an identification code number is placed inside the coffin (later to be given to the family together with the ashes).
- The cremation is carried out in the furnace at temperatures in excess of 800 degrees. It is a procedure that can take 2 to 3 hours.
- The ashes are allowed to cool for about 30 minutes and then the human remains are separated from the other remains.
- The ashes are delivered to the family in an urn, which is sealed and properly labelled.
